This step by step woodworking project is about wooden toddler swing set made from 2x4s plans. I have designed this super simple toddler swing so you can build it with 2x4s and screws. If you like the easy to follow design, this project shouldn’t take more than one weekend to make. Work with attention also take a look over the rest of my garden bench designs, especially this one. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a 2×4 swing set for kids
The first step of the outdoor project is to build the legs for the swing set from 2x4s. Use a miter saw to make angle cuts at both ends of the legs, as shown in the diagram. You can adjust the angles to make the base wider, if you want more stability.
Continue the project by attaching the 2×4 braces to the A-frames. Make angle cuts at both ends and then secure the braces to the legs with 2 1/2″ screws.
The next step is to assemble the top beam by joining two 2×4 boards together. Add glue and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the beams together and then lock them with clamps. Align the edges with attention.
Use 2×4 lumber for the diagonal braces. Make 45 degree cuts at both ends of the braces and then lock them together with glue and screws (use two pieces for each brace). Make sure the A-frames are plumb and check if the top beam is perfectly horizontal. Add the braces and lock them into place with 3 1/2″ screws.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to enhance the look of the 2×4 bench and to protect the components from decay. Fit the hooks and then install the swing (see my recommendations in the materials list).

These instructions are terrible for something that is suppose to be “easy”.
The angles are confusing…Where is the 22 degree measured from? The inside or outside of the leg?
The top of the posts needs to be 22 degrees, after you make the cut. So you need to make a 68 degree cut.
