This step by step diy woodworking project is about 4×8 ice shack plans. If you want a lightweight ice fishing shanty so you can move it easily with your truck, these are the plans to follow. This shack is also easy to build as it can accommodate up to 3 people. The materials are cheap so you can get the job done in a budget friendly manner. See my other shed plans HERE.

Fit the door inside the opening and lock it to the 1×4 jambs with metal hinges. After you check if the door opens properly, you should install the hinges, as well as a strong latch. Work with attention and with great attention, if you want to get the job done as a professional and to prevent costly mistakes. Building a small ice shack

Materials

A – 2 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 96″ long SKIDS
B – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 96″ long, 7 pieces – 45″ long FRAME
C – 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 48″x96″ long FLOOR
D – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 96″ long, 4 pieces – 79 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 46 1/2″ long, 1 piece – 16″ long, 1 piece – 44 1/2″ long SIDE WALL
E – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 96″ long, 5 pieces – 91 1/2″ long SIDE WALL
E – 4 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 45″ long BACK WALL
F – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 6 1/2″ long, 1 piece – 45″ long, 4 pieces – 79 1/2″ long FRONT WALL

Building a 4×8 ice fishing shack

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame. Cut the joists from 2×4 lumber at the right dimensions. Align the edges with attention and place the joists every 16″ on center. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the skids

Use 4×4 lumber for the skids. Make 45 degree cuts to both ends of the skids. Align the edges with attention. Drill pilot holes through the floor frame and insert screws into the skids. Alternatively, you could use rafter ties to lock the skids tightly to the frame.

Fitting the floor

Fit a sheet of 3/4″ pressure treated plywood over the joists. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws along the joists, every 8″. Make sure you also make the cut outs for the traps. Mark the cut lines and get the job done with a jigsaw. You can adjust the size of the traps to suit your needs. the easiest way is to make the traps between the joists.Fit 2x4s between the joists to frame the traps properly.

Tall side wall – Frame

Continue the project by assembling the tall side wall for the ice fishing shack. Cut the plates and the studs from 2×2 lumber, after taking accurate measurements. Align the edges flush and make sure you place the studs every 24″ on center. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs.

Side wall – Frame

Frame the opposite side wall from 2×2 lumber, as well. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you should also frame a small window, so you let the light inside the shack. You can adjust the size of the opening based on the size of your window.

Front wall – Frame

Fit the side walls to the floor of the shack. Align the edges flush and plumb them with a spirit level. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor.

Build the front wall from 2×2 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Make sure the corners are square and adjust the size of the door opening to suit your needs.

Back wall – Frame

Fit 2×2 supports to the back of the ice shack. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the side walls with 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.
