Smokehouse Roof Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about wooden smokehouse roof plans. This is PART 2 of the smokehouse project, where I show you how to build the roof for the 4×4 wood smokehouse. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a wooden smokehouse

Materials

E – 13 pieces of 1×6 lumber – 84″ long, 1 piece – 27 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 49 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 36″ long, 2 pieces – 17″ long WALLS
F – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 9 3/4″ long, 8 pieces – 34 1/4″ long, 1 piece of 2×6 lumber – 48″ long RAFTERS
G – 4 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 35 1/4″ long, 1o pieces – 2 1/2″ long 2xOVERHANG
H – 7 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 60 1/2″ long ROOF

Building a smokehouse roof

Building the rafters

As in the case of the previous components, make sure you only use untreated cedar for this building. Build the rafters from 2×4 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the 2x4s and then get the job done with a circular saw. Follow the instructions in the diagram for the right angle cuts.

Fitting the top ridge

Build the top ridge supports from 2×4 lumber and the top ridge from 2×6 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.

Fitting the rafters

Fit the rafters to the top of the smokehouse. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the rafters and insert 2 1/2″ screw into the structure, so you lock them tightly into place.

Fitting the front wall slats

Attach 1×6 slats to the front wall of the smokehouse. Use 4d nails to secure the slats into place.

Back walls slats

Attach the 1×6 cedar slats to the back of the smokehouse, as well.

Fitting the gable ends

Fit 1×6 slats to fill the gable ends of the smokehouse.

Assembling the overhangs

Build the overhangs for the smokehouse using 2×4 lumber. Cut the components as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and lock everything together with 2 1/2″ screws. You can easily adjust the size of the overhangs to suit your needs.

Fitting the overhangs

Fit the overhangs to the front and to the back of the shed. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to assemble everything together tightly.

Fitting the roofing

Attach the 1×6 slats to the roof of the smokehouse. Leave no gaps between the slats and secure them into place with 4d galvanized screws. If you want to build a nice wooden smokehouse on your property, you should . If you like my project, don’t forget to SHARE it on Facebook and Pinterest.
