Building shelves
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the shelves for the storage unit. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to mark the cut lines on the 3/4″ plywood and to get the job done with a jigsaw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and remove the residues before fitting them into place. Make sure you make the notches in a professional manner, otherwise it will be impossible to fit the 2×2 legs.
Â
Â
Drill pocket holes through the shelves and secure them to the wooden legs, as shown in the diagram. Make sure you work with attention and align the components with attention, before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws into place. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.
Â
Â
Make sure you create rigid joints between the components, otherwise the storage unit won’t be able to support the weight. Place the shelves equally-spaced.
Â
Â
Â
Last but not least, you need to attach the top shelf into place. Drill pocket holes at the top of the legs and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the shelf. We recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
