This step by step woodworking project is about free playhouse with porch roof plans. This is PART 2 of the 8×8 outdoor playhouse project, where I show you step by step plans for building the roof of the and the porch. Take a look over the diagrams, so you learn how to build the roof framing and the porch supports. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build a roof for a playhouse with porch
The first step is to build the rafters for the outdoor playhouse. Use 2×2 lumber for the rafters and make the angle cuts, as shown in the diagram.
Make the birdsmouth cuts to the rafters, so you can secure them into place easily.
Fit the rafters to the top of the playhouse, every 24″ on center. Plumb the rafters with a spirit level and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Fit the 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood sheets to the sides of the playhouse. Make the cuts to the sheets and then secure them into place with 6-8d nails. Align the edges flush for a professional result. Make the cuts for the window openings.
Continue the project by assembling the supports for the front porch. Cut the components from 2×2 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square.
Fit the supports to the front of the playhouse. Plumb the supports with a spirit level and then drill pilot holes through the bottom plates. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the supports to the floor.
Build the porch rafters from 2×2 lumber. Make the angle cuts to the rafters, as show in the diagram.
Place the rafters to the front of the playhouse, every 24″ on center. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the rafters into place tightly.
Fit 3/4″ plywood sheets to the top of the playhouse. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws, so you lock them into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the sheets for a neat result.
Fit the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the opposite side of the roof. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the sheets into place, every 8″ along the rafters.
Build the roof trims from 1×3 lumber. Make the angle cuts using a miter saw and smooth the edges with sandpaper.
Fit the trims to the sides of the roof. Align the edges flush and insert 2″ nails to lock them into place tightly.
Take a look over PART 3 of the project, so you learn how to build the railings and how to fit the decorative trims around the door and around the window. Take a look over PART 1 of the playhouse, so you learn how to build the frame of the playhouse. See all my Playhouse Plans, as well, as I have lots of designs that come in many sizes.
