This step by step woodworking project is about extra large dog house roof plans free. This diy woodworking project is PART 2 of the large dog house plan, where I show you how to build the rafters and how to add the finishing touches, for a professional result. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a dog house roof

Building the rafters

Building the rafters

First of all, you need to build the rafters for the dog house. Cut both ends of the 2×4 beams at 75 degrees using a miter saw. Then you need to make the notches to the rafters, so you can fit them into place properly.

Fitting the rafters

Fitting the rafters

Attach the rafters to the top of the dog house, equally-spaced. Drill pilot holes through the rafters and insert the screws, so you lock them into place tightly.

Side walls - Siding

Attach 3/4″ plywood panels to the side walls, after cutting them to the right size and shape. Use 2″ brad nails to secure the panels into place tightly.

Front wall - Siding

Fit the plywood panel to the front of the dog house. Drill a starting hole and then make the door opening with a jigsaw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.

Back wall - Siding

Attach the 3/4″ plywood panel to the back of the dog house, as well.

Fitting the door opening trims

Staple tar paper to the roof of the dog house and then install the drip edges. Last but not least, you need to install the asphalt shingles. Read the manufacturer’s instructions so you install the shingles in a professional manner.
