This step by step woodworking project is about flower bed made from 2x4s plans. I have designed this super simple flower bed with two tiers so you can grow your favorite colorful plants in your own garden. You can easily adjust the size and design of the flower bed to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a flower bed from 2x4s
The first step of the project is to build the frames for the flower bed. Therefore, cut the 2×4 boards at the dimensions shown in the diagram and lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the 48″ boards and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular ones. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square.
Fit the 2×2 supports to the corners. You can use 2×4 for the supports, as well. Clamp the supports to the four frames and leave no gaps between them. Drill pilot holes through the corner posts and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the frames.
Next, fit the 2×2 supports for the top planter. Use a spirit level to plumb the supports and 2 1/2″ screws to secure them into place.
Continue the project by attaching the 2×4 boards to the supports. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2′ screws to secure them into place tightly.
Next, fit the 2×4 trims to the raised garden bed. Make the angle cuts to the trims and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Leave no gaps between the trims.
Â
Fit the trims to the top planter. Use screws to secure the trims into place.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and make sure the joints are sturdy. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper and apply a few coats of stain/paint. If you are going to grow vegetables, make sure you use food safe products. In addition, avoid using pressure treated lumber if you are using it for growing vegetables.
