How to build a porch swing bench
Firs of all, build the seat supports for the porch swing bench. Build the seat supports from 2×4 lumber. Build 2 pieces of each component, as shown in the diagram.
To make the notches for the middle seat supports, you need to make parallel cuts with a circular saw and then remove the excess with a chisel. Smooth the recess with sandpaper for a professional result.
Next, build the backrest supports from 2×4 lumber. Make the round cuts with a jigsaw. Build two pieces of each component, as shown in the diagram.
The next step of the project is to assemble the supports with pocket screws, as shown in the diagram. Drill pocket holes and align the edges with attention. Add glue to the joints and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them together tightly.
Fit the supports to a level surface (fit the supports with notches to the middle) and then attach the 2×4 stretchers. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the stretchers and then secure them to the end supports with 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot holes through the stretchers and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the middle supports.
Fit the 1×2 slats to the frame of the porch swing. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 1 1 /4″ screws, so you can lock them into place tightly. You can even round the exposed edges with a router before fitting the slats into place, for an exquisite look. Moreover, you could leave space between the slats.
Fit the 1×2 armrest supports to the sides of the porch bench. Cut the supports at the right dimensions and then attach them to the sides of the bench. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Build the armrests from 1×4 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the slats and then get the job done with a jigsaw. Smooth the edges or round them with a router.
Fit the armrests to the supports and center them into place. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws to secure them into place tightly. Moreover, secure the armrests to the backrest supports.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Round the exposed edges and make sure the joints are really sturdy.
Clean the residues before applying a few coats of stain or paint, to protect the components from decay and to enhance the look of the porch swing.
This porch swing bench has a clean and elegant design, so you can place it in your backyard or on your porch.

Is it possible to get the curves shown on a graph?
Unfortunately, this is all I’ve got.
I like this swing but how do you install the chains to hang?
You use this hanging kit; https://amzn.to/2GQGCzT You secure the eye screws to the sides of the swing frame (see this as reference: https://amzn.to/2ILsx75)
Hi,
Looks good, thank you for the plan. One smalls change I would add is to let the back support (B) run longer to the bottom of the bottom pieces (A), and instead of Kreg Jig screws I would bolt them together with 2 bolts each. Basically A and B should be bolted instead of screwed together, to add more support in my opinion.
Great plan btw. Thank you!
Hello
I like the swing bench plan. Only thing I don’t see is how to attach the chains. I plan to hang this from beams under my deck.
Thanks for sharing.
