Outdoor Playhouse Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about free outdoor playhouse plans. I have designed this playhouse with porch, so you can put a smile on your kids faces. The playhouse has a door opening and side window openings. Moreover, the playhouse has a roomy front porch. The frame is made from 2x2s so you get a sturdy structure that is easy to build and budget friendly. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a playhouse

Materials

• A – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 96″ long, 7 pieces – 93″long FLOOR FRAME
• B – 2 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 48″x96″ long FLOORING
• C – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 69″ long, 4 pieces – 69″ long, 2 pieces – 22 1/2″ long 2xSIDE WALL
• D – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 96″ long, 5 pieces – 69″ long BACK WALL
• E – 2 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 32″ long, 1 piece – 96″ long, 6 pieces – 69″ long, 1 piece – 32″ long, 1 piece – 5″ long FRONT WALL
• F – 4 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 48″x72″ long,  SIDING

• 9 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
• 4 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 8′
• 25 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 6′
• 6 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 48″x96″
• 8d nails, 2 1/2″ screws, 3 1/2″ screws

How to build an outdoor playhouse with porch

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the frame for the floor of the playhouse. Cut the joists at the right dimensions and lay them on a level surface. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Check if the corners are square for a neat result.

Floor sheets

Fit the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the floor frame. Align the edges flush and leave no gaps between them. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the sheets into place, every 8″ along the joists.

Front wall – frame

Continue the project by assembling the front wall for the playhouse. Cut the plates and the studs from 2×2 lumber, using the instructions in the diagram. Lay the components to the floor frame, so you can assemble the wall properly. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. You can adjust the size of the door opening to suit your needs.

Side wall – Frame

Next, assemble the side wall frames. Cut the components from 2×2 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. You should also frame the windows.

Back wall – Frame

Build the back wall frame, using the same techniques described above.

Assembling the shed frame

Fit the wall frames to the floor of the playhouse. Align the edges flush and use a spirit level to plumb the wall frames. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the floor. Moreover, you need to lock the adjacent walls together tightly with 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square.

Back wall – siding

Fit the 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood sheets to the back of the playhouse. Align the edges flush and insert 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing. Leave no gaps between the sheets for a professional result.

Front wall – Siding

Fit the sheets to the front of the playhouse, as well. Make a few cuts so you can fit the sheets around the door opening.
