This step by step diy project is about kids playhouse roof plans. This backyard project features detailed instructions regarding the construction of a roof for a beautiful playhouse. Adjust the design of the table to suit your needs and to match the design of your backyard furniture. Check out the rest of the outdoor project to see how to build the benches.
You should always plan everything from the very beginning, in order to prevent costly mistakes and to save time. In most of the cases, you need a friend to give you a hand when assembling the playhouse roof. Invest in high quality lumber and plywood, as the components will be exposed to bad weather. Protect the components with appropriate paint or stain.
There are a few tips that you should take into account, if you want to get a professional result. Therefore, take accurate measurements and use professional tools when making the cuts or when drilling pilot holes. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure.

How to build a playhouse roof
Â
Build the rafters out of 2×2 lumber. Cut the ends of the rafters at the right angles, as shown in the diagram.
Â
Â
Fit the rafters to the playhouse, making sure you place them equally-spaced. Drill pilot holes and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Leave no gaps between the components.
Â
Â
Attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the rafters, as shown in the diagrams. Drill pilot holes and secure the sheets to the rafters using 1 1/4″ screws. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure everything is locked together tightly.
Â
Â
Attach the 4×4 posts to the porch, as described in the diagram. Cut the top of the posts at 80 degrees. Plumb the posts with a spirit level before toe-nailing them to the floor. Fit the 2×4 support to the top of the posts, as described in the diagram.
Â
Â
Build the rails for the sides of the porch, using the diagram. Make notches to the rails to fit into place easily. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the rails.
Â
Â
Fit the rails to the posts by using 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square. Toenail the baluster to the rails using 2 1/2″ screws.
Â
Â
Build the rails out of 2×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the rails and secure them to the posts with 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled. Build the balusters out of 2×2 lumber and secure them to the rails with 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting.
Â
Â
Continue the project by fitting the roofing sheets to the front overhang. Smooth the edges and attach the sheets to the structure. Drill pilot holes and secure the sheets to the structure using 1 1/4″ screws.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. In order to get a professional result, fill the holes and the gaps with wood filler and let it dry out for a few hours. Check if there are protruding screws and fix this issue, if necessary.
