This step by step woodworking project is about wooden raised garden bed made from 2x4s plans. I have designed this 4’x6′ raised garden bed so you can build it entirely with 2x4s. I would recommend you to stay away from pressure treated lumber, as it will have a negative impact of the plants health. If you have a higher budget, invest in weather resistant lumber. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a square planter box from 2x4s
The first step of the project is to build the frames for the raised garden bed. Cut the slats from 2×4 lumber at the dimensions shown in the plans. Align the edges and make sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the frames together tightly.
Stack the frames on top of another, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges with attention. Make sure the location of the raised garden bed receives a lot of natural light and level the surface with attention.
Next, attach the supports to the exterior of the garden bed. Clamp the supports to the garden bed, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
The next step of the project is to attach the decorative trims. Use 2×4 lumber for the trims and make 45 degree cuts at both ends. Lay the trims to the top of the garden bed and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the exterior of the planter box. Make sure the products are non toxic. If you don’t use weather resistant lumber, staple landscape fabric to the interior of the garden bed.
Add hooks and other accessories to the garden bed to make the most of it. Fill the garden bed with soil. If you like my project, don’t forget to SHARE it on Facebook and Pinterest. See all my planter projects HERE!
