This step by step diy woodworking project is about how to build a firewood rack. If you want to learn more about how to build a nice wood shed, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Work with attention and invest in weather-resistant lumber, as the shed structure will be exposed to rain and other harsh weather conditions.

If you want to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to plan everything from the very beginning and to ask a fried to give you a hand. There are many other wood shed plans to choose from, so make sure you take a look over the related projects before starting the actual assembly process. Adjust the design and the size of the wood shed to your needs and budget.

Although this wood shed doesn’t have a roof and it won’t offer full protection for the firewood, it will keep the expenditures at a very low level, so almost any person can get the job done in just one weekend with little effort. Select the pressure-treated lumber with attention, making sure the components are perfectly straight and in a very good visual condition (no cracks, knots or bows). Building the frame

Building the frame

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the shed. Cut the components out of 2×4 lumber, after taking accurate measurements. Drill pilot holes through the rim components and insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into the perpendicular components. Add waterproof glue to the joint.

Fitting the legs

Fitting the legs

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the legs to the frame of the shed. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and secure them to the frame using 2 1/2″ screws. In addition, make sure the frame of the shed is horizontal, before inserting the screws.

Fitting the braces

Cut both ends of the braces at 45 degrees and secure them to the frame, as described in the image. Lock the braces to the frame by inserting 2 1/2″ screws.

Fit 2×4 legs to the frame of the shed, in order to provide extra-support to the structure. Drill pilot holes through the legs to prevent the wood from splitting.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the wood shed.
