The first step of the outdoor project is about building the front and the back panels of the umbrella stand. As you can notice in the plans, we recommend you to build the frame out of 1×3 lumber and the walls out of 1×2 lumber.

Smart Tip: Drill pocket holes and lock the components together by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the panels.

Continue the project by assembling the other two panels that will be the sides of the umbrella stand. Adjust the with of the legs as shown in the image, in order to build a perfectly square box. Make sure you check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the screws and locking the components together.

Assembling the frame

Assembling the frame

Assembling the four sides of the stand together is a straight-forward job, but this doesn’t mean that you don’t have to pay attention to this stage. Therefore, we recommend you to plumb the panels with a spirit level and to lock them together tightly with waterproof glue and 1 1/4″ screws, after drilling pocket holes.

Smart Tip: Make sure you align the components at both ends if you want to get a neat appearance.

One of the last steps of the project is to build the top of the umbrella stand and to attach it into place. After assembling the top on a level surface, we strongly recommend you to lock it into place with finishing nails. Make sure you center the top over the box, as to get a professional result.
