This step by step diy woodworking project is about end table plans. Building a wooden end table is easy and it will enhance the look of your bedroom, but there are a few things that you should take into account before starting the construction. Make sure you gather all the tools from the very beginning and you plan every aspect of the project to the littlest detail.

It is essential to invest in high quality lumber if you want to get the job done in a professional manner. Therefore, we recommend you to select the slats with great care, making sure the lumber is in a good condition (without cracks, wane or chips). Take accurate measurements and adjust the size of the components by using a professional tool. if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

Moreover, drill pilot holes through the components before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get a rigid structure. It is essential to adjust the size and the design of the end table to your needs and tastes before starting the actual assembly, otherwise the end table might not suit the style of the room. Buidling the sides

Building the sides

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the end table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to start by building the sides of the wooden table. Cut the wooden components at the right size and lock them together with pocket screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert the screws into the legs.

The next step of the woodworking project is to lock the sides of the table together by using 2×2 lumber. Plumb the sides of the table with a spirit level and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get a rigid structure. Check if the corners are right-angled by using a carpentry square.

Attaching the tabletop

One of the last steps of the project is to attach the slats to the tabletop and to the bottom shelf. Cut the 2×6 slats at the right size and lock them to the frame with galvanized screws. Center the tabletop to the frame before inserting the screws. Lock the slats together by adding glue and screws.

If you want to enhance the look of the end table we recommend you to add X-shaped components to both sides of the structure. Cut the ends of the components at 45 degrees and lock them into place with galvanized screws.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the end table.

Hello from Atlanta, great post! Thanks for all the information. One question, do you apply the wood stain to the individual pieces of lumber before you build the table or can you do it once the table is complete?

It would be better to stain the components before assembly, but you can also do it afterwards.
