This step by step diy project is about desk with storage plans. If you want to build a wooden desk with lots of storage space, including a tower bookcase, we recommend you to take a look over the instructions. Don’t forget to take a look over the rest of the indoor projects and to adjust the design and size of the desk to suit your needs.
You should always plan everything form the very beginning and to adjust the size of the desk to your needs, while you can still use the woodworking techniques described in this project. Mark the cut lines on the slats before making the cuts and use a jigsaw to get the job done. You could use the right storage unit for your computer, if you remove the middle shelf.
There are a few tips that you should take into account, if you want to get a professional result. Therefore, take accurate measurements and use professional tool when making the cuts or when drilling pilot holes. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure. Round the exposed edges with sandpaper or by using a good router.

How to build a desk
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the small storage unit. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the components out of 3/4″ plywood. Build the components at the right size and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper.
Â
Â
Build the back of the storage unit using 3/4″ plywood. Smooth the edges and drill pocket holes along the sides. Fit the panel to the structure and lock it into place using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps.
Â
Â
The next step of the project is to build the tower unit. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the shelves. Fit the shelves to the storage tower and lock them into place using 1 1/4″ screws.
Â
Â
Build the back of the tower out of 1/4″ plywood, following the instructions described in the diagram. Attach the panel to the back of the structure and secure it into place using finishing nails.
Â
Â
Ad a 1×4 support to the tower unit, as described in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and secure the support to the tower, making sure it is perfectly horizontal. Drill pocket holes along the top edge of the support.
Â
Â
Build the top of the desk out of 24″x48″. Smooth the edges and attach it to the storage units. Insert 1 1/4″ screws through the support into the tabletop. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the components. In addition, drill pilot holes through the top of the small storage unit and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the tabletop.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. In order to get a professional result, fill the holes and the gaps with wood filler and let it dry out for a few hours. Â Check if there are protruding screws and fix this issue, if necessary.
