This step by step diy woodworking project is about shed door plans. If you want to learn how to build a shed door, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions and to invest in high quality materials. Work with attention and plan every step of woodworking project from the very beginning, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

There are several aspects that you should take into account before starting the construction of the shed door, as to keep the costs under control and to save time. If you don’t have a large expertise in the field, we recommend you to ask a skilled friend to give you a hand. There are several steps during the project when you need someone to lock the components into place, while you insert the galvanized screws.

A shed door is an essential component of the construction, so you need to pay the required attention to the construction process. Therefore, select the right materials and use professional tools to lock them together, otherwise the end result might not suit your needs. Check if the corners are right angled and make sure the door opens properly, before attaching it to the jambs with metal hinges. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Fitting the door stop

Fitting the door stop

The first step of the project is to attach the door stop to the top of the door opening. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut a piece of 2×2 lumber and to secure it to the framing with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Align the piece of lumber at both ends, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

Next, you need to attach the 1×4 trims around the door opening. In this manner, you will create rigid door jambs for the shed door. Align the trims at the right size and secure them into place with finishing nails and waterproof glue. Make the cuts with a circular saw, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

In order to build the shed door, we recommend you to use the piece of siding that has been cut out in the previous steps of the woodworking project. Afterwards, make the wooden trims out of 1×4 lumber and attach them to the piece of siding with finishing nails and waterproof glue.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Fit the door into the opening and lock it to the door jambs with metal hinges. Fit a nice door latch to close the door properly.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the shed. Check out the rest of the project to see how to attach the exterior siding and to build the roof.
