Building Shed Doors Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about free 8×16 garden shed door plans. This is PART 3 of the project, where I show you how to build the double doors for the shed with porch. The double doors helps you have a super easy access to the interior of the shed. You can build another door to the side of the shed, for a direct access to the porch. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a shed with porch

Materials

• N – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 77″ long, 1 pieces – 79″ long JAMB
• M – 1 piece of T1-11 siding – 36″x77″ long, 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 36″ long, 2 pieces – 70″ long, 1 piece – 29″ long 2xDOOR

• 9 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
• 2 1/2″ screws, 3 1/2″ screws, 1 5/8″ screws
• wood filler , wood glue, stain/paint
• shed hinges and latch

Tools

• Safety gloves, glasses
• Miter saw, jigsaw
• Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
• Drill machinery and drill bits

Building double shed doors

Fitting the jambs for the double doors

Fit the 2×4 slats around the door opening. Align the edges flush and then secure the jambs into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure you countersink the head of the screws before inserting the screws, for a professional result.

Building the double doors

Build the double doors for the shed with porch from T1-11 siding and 2×4 trims. Cut the trims at the right dimensions and then lock them to the siding with 1 5/8″ screws. Make sure the edges are flush, otherwise they won’t fit into the opening.

Use the T1-11 panels that you have cut out in the previous steps, when attaching the sheets to the front wall.

Fitting the double doors

Fit the double shed doors to the opening and then lock them to the jambs with hinges. In addition, you need to install a latch and handles so you can open and close the doors easily.

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint over the trims and over the walls, so you can protect them from decay. See PART 1 and PART 2.
