This step by step woodworking project is about free 8×8 garden shed plans. I have designed this beautiful shed for your garden, so you can shelter a few tools in a stylish manner. The shed has a nice gable roof and a large window placed on a side wall. In addition, the access to the interior of the shed is easy, as you have double doors to the front of the shed. We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a 8×8 garden shed

Materials

A – 3 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 96″ long SKIDS
B – 2 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 96″ long, 7 pieces – 93″long FLOOR FRAME
C – 2 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 48″x96″ long FLOOR
D – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 96″ long, 6 pieces – 80″ long, 3 pieces – 33″ long, 2 pieces – 36″ long, 4 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 39″ long SIDE WALL
E – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 96″ long, 5 pieces – 80″ long SIDE WALL

Building the floor frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the garden shed. Cut the joists at the right dimensions and then lay then on a level surface. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular joists.

Fitting the skids

Lay the 4×4 skids under the floor frame. Place the skids properly so they hold the weight evenly. Use rafter ties to secure the frame to the skids. Alternatively, you can drill pilot holes and insert screws.

Attaching the floor frame

Attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the frame. Align the edges flush and leave no gaps between them for a professional result. Drill pilot holes through the sheets and insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the skids.

Side wall with window – Frame

Continue the outdoor project by assembling the side wall with window for the garden shed. Cut the components from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Place the studs every 24″ on center and make sure the corners are square.

As you can notice the free plans, you can frame 3’x3′ opening for a window. Install the double headers and the double studs, so you create enough support for the window.

Double headers

Build the double headers from 2×6 lumber. Fit a piece of 1/2″ plywood between the headers and lock them together tightly with 2 1/2″ screws and glue.

Front wall – Frame

Cut the front wall for the garden shed from 2×4 lumber, as well. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to frame the opening for the double doors. Fit a double header for the doors. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs.

Back wall – Frame

Frame the back wall from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert the 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. Place the studs every 24″ on center.

Building the side wall – Frame

Assemble the other side wall for the garden shed in the same manner described above.

Assembling the frame of the shed

Fit the wall frames to the floor of the shed. Align the edges flush with attention, drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor. Use a spirit level to make sure the walls are square. In addition, you need to secure the adjacent walls together tightly, using screws. Drill pilot holes and insert the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.

Back and Side Wall – Siding

Attach T1-11 siding sheets to the back and the plain side wall of the shed. Align the edges with attention and use 6-8d nails to lock the sheets into place tightly. Insert the nails every 8″ along the framing.

Side wall with window

Fit the sheets to the side wall with window, as well. As you can see in the free plans, you need to mark the cut lines on the sheets and then get the job done with a saw. Secure the sheets to the framing with 6-8d nails.

Front wall – Siding

Proceed in the same manner for the front wall siding. Mark the cut lines and then get the job done with saw.
