Kids Chair Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about kids chair plans. This wooden chair is the perfect woodworking project for your kids, as it has a rustic look to it. You can easily involve the kids in the building process and then help them paint it to their own taste. We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a kids chair

Materials

A – 2 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 14″ long, 2 pieces – 26″ long LEGS
B – 2 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 12″ long, 1 piece – 11″ long FRAME
C – 2 pieces of 1x3lumber – 8 1/2″ long TRIMS
D – 4 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 12 1/2″ long, 1 piece – 11″ long SEAT
E – 2 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 11″ long BACKREST

1 1/4 brad nails, 1 1/4″ pocket screws, 1 1/4″ screws

Building a rain barrel stand

Building the chair legs

Build the legs for the kids chair using the 1×3 slats. Mark the cut lines on the slats and get the job done with a saw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper for a neat result.

Assembling the seat frame

Build the seat frame from 1×3 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 12″ long components and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock everything together tightly. Add waterproof glue to the joints and align the edges flush.

Assembling the frame of the chair

Attach the legs to the seat frame. Make sure the corners are square and align everything with great care. Add waterproof glue to the joints, drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the legs.

Fitting the side trims

Fit 1×3 decorative trims to the sides of the chair, as shown in the plans. Use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to secure the trims into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the components for a neat result.

Attach the seat slats

Attach 1×3 slats to the seat frame of the kids chair. Drill pilot holes though the slats and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock everything together tightly. Make sure you countersink the head of the screws for a neat result.

Fitting the backrest

Use 1×3 lumber for the backrest of the chair, as well. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and then secure them to the legs using 1 1/4″ pocket screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure there is at least 1/2″ between the backrest slats.

Chair Plans for Kids

Fill the holes and the dents with wood putty and let it dry out for several hours. Smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper and then clean the residues off with a damp cloth. Apply a few layers of paint or stain to enhance the look of the time out chair and to protect the components from the elements.
