This step by step woodworking project is about farmhouse desk plans. This is a very nice farmhouse desk you can easily build using lumber you can pick up at most home improvement stores. If you select the materials attentively, you can get the job done easily and have one of a kind piece in your office. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a farmhouse desk
The first step of the project is to build the base for the desk. Cut the components at 14″ and then make a 45 degree decorative cut to the other end.
Drill pocket holes through the base components and then insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical legs. Add glue to the joints for a neat result.
Fit small of 3 1/2″ long pieces of 1×4 lumber to the base. Secure them into place with 2 1/2″ brad nails and glue.
Build the braces for the farmhouse desk from 2×4 lumber. Cut both ends at 45 degrees. Drill pilot holes and secure the braces to the legs with 2 1/2″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints.
Build the tabletop from 1×8 slats. Drill the pocket holes as in the image and use 1 1/4″ pocket screws and glue to lock them together tightly. In addition, clamp everything tightly, so you can eliminate the gaps.
Build the trims for top from 2×4 lumber. Cut both ends of the trims at 45 degrees. Fit them to the tabletop with glue and 2 1/2″ brad nails.
Fit 2×4 supports to the back of the desk top. Align the components with attention, add glue to the joints and insert 2″ screws.
Fit the legs to the back of the desk, as shown in the diagram. Make sure the corners are square, drill pilot holes through the braces and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. In addition, use 2 1/2″ pocket screws to connect the legs to the top supports.
Fill the holes with wood putty and let it dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of stain and poly to enhance the look of the farmhouse desk.
This is a nice farmhouse wood desk. You can adjust the size of the project easily so it suits your needs and tastes.  If you like my project, don’t forget to SHARE it on Facebook and Pinterest.
