This step by step woodworking project is about free 12×12 garden shed double doors plans. This is PART 3 of the garden shed project, where I show you how to build the double doors for this beautiful garden shed. In addition, I show you how to enhance the look of the shed by fitting a few trims. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build double shed doors

Fitting the jambs

Fitting the jambs

The first step of the project is to attach the 2×4 jambs around the opening. Align the edges flush and use 2 1/2″ screws to secure them into place. Drill pilot holes and insert the screws every 8″ along the framing.

Building the door

Building the door

Use T1-11 siding for the door panels. Use 2×4 lumber for the door frame. Drill pocket holes and secure the frame together with 2 1/2″ screws. Afterwards, you need to attach the panel to the door frame. Use 2″ nails to secure the door panel to the frame.

Fit the double doors to the opening and align the edges flush. Use hinges to secure the doors to the jambs. In addition, you need to install a latch so you can lock the double doors tightly. Make sure the doors open and close easily for a professional result. Install the handles.

Great plans! I had a lot of fun putting the shed together while listing to “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” I need a project through this Covid-19 Pandemic home time and this was the ticket. Thanks!

If the doors are 36″ wide each and the opening is 75″ wide, how do you space them to take up that extra 3″?

The opening is 72″. 75″ is the double header, which is supported with two jack studs, on both sides.
