Building a computer desk
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the storage unit for the computer desk. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the unit out of 3/4″ plywood components. Take accurate measurements and get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the shelves and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the sides. Make sure the corners are square before inserting the screws.
Â
Â
Continue the project by assembling the frame of the desk. Build the side of the desk out of 3/4″ plywood and secure it to the storage unit with 1×3 slats. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the components by using 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.
Â
Â
Build the tabletop out of 3/4″ plywood. Cut the component at the right size and lay it on a level surface. Fit the frame of the desk to the tabletop, as in the diagram. Drill pocket holes along the top edge of the sides and through the support. Insert 1 1/4″ screws and add glue to enhance the bond of the joints. Make sure the edges are flush before inserting the screws.
Â
Â
Fit the supports to the tabletop, as in the diagram. Drill pock holes along the top and bottom edges of the supports. Place the supports to the tabletop and insert 1 1/4″ screws to create rigid joints. Make sure the corners are square to get a professional result.
Â
Â
One of the last steps of the project is to fit the monitor support to the structure of the desk. Align the components with great care and insert 1 1/4″ screws to get a professional result. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Very easy to follow instructions. I used these as a base to make my own modified desk (larger and ergonomic to fit me).
Congrats for the project. I would love to see and feature it on the blog. You can send a few pics here: https://howtospecialist.com/give-back/ Thanks
This is a great and simple plan. Is it okay to use lumber for all parts (instead of plywood), or would more supports be needed? Thank you.
Yes
