Building a desk
Â
The first step of the project is to build the sides of the vanity. Build the legs out of 2×2 lumber and the panels out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the plywood pieces and secure them to the legs with galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
The next step of the woodworking project is to lock the sides of the vanity together with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the legs using 1 1/4′ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.
Â
Â
The next step of the project is to fit the 1×3 supports into place. Cut the supports at the right size and lock them to the frame using galvanized screws. Place the middle support equally-spaced from the two sides.
Â
Â
Build the frame of the drawers out of 1×4 lumber and the bottom component out of 3/4″ plywood. Leave no gaps between the components and add glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid and durable structure.
Â
Â
Center the frame of the desk to the tabletop, drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the components.
Â
Â
Fit the drawers to the frame of the bar, by using appropriate slides. Make sure the drawers open and close properly and make adjustments, if necessary.
Â
Â
Attach the faces to the drawers, making sure you leave a 1/8″ gaps around the edges. Drill galvanized screws from the inside into the faces and add glue to create a durable bond.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
