Rain Barrel Stand Plans

This step by step woodworking project is about rain barrel stand plans. I have designed this sturdy stand so you can have a barrel for collecting rain water. Remember that you need to adjust the height and the size of the top to suit your needs. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Building a rain barrel stand

Materials

A – 4 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 34 1/2″ long LEGS
B – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 21″ long, 1 piece – 15″ long BRACES
C – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 21″ long, 2 pieces – 18″ long SUPPORT
D – 5 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 21″ long TOP

2 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 8′
3 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8′
2 1/2″ screws
stain, glue, putty

Tools

Safety gloves, glasses
Miter saw, jigsaw
Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
Drill machinery and drill bits

Building a rain barrel stand

Building the legs

The first step of the project is to build the legs for the rain barrel stand. Mark the cut lines on the legs and use a circular saw to make parallel cuts. Remove the excess with a chisel and smooth the recess with sandpaper.

Bottom braces

Attach the 2×4 braces to the legs, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Fitting the stretcher

Fit a 2×4 stretcher to the bottom of the rain barrel stand. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Building the top frame

Build the top supports from 2×4 slats, as well. Cut the components at the right components, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly. Add glue to the joints for a neat result.

Fitting the top stand

Attach 2×4 slats to the top of the barrel stand. Place a piece of 1″ lumber between the slats to create even gaps. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to get the job done in a professional result.

Wood rain barrel stand plans

Smooth the edges with sandpaper and fill the gaps with wood putty. After evening out the surface, you need to apply a few coats of stain or paint to protect the components from the elements.
