This step by step woodworking project is about drill press stand plans. This wood stand on caster wheels is both very easy to build and it also features storage space for drill pits and other small items. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. PDF downloadable plans with premium features in the Store.

Building a drill press stand
First of all, you need to assemble the frame of the drill press stand. Cut the components from 3/4″ plywood, after taking accurate measurements. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the side panels and secure them to the top and bottom with 1 1/4″ pocket screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and align the edges flush for a neat result.
Build the partitions from 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the sides and secure them to the frame using 1 1/4″ pocket screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.
Attach the 1/4″ plywood panel to the back of the tool stand using glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails.
Attach the 3″ caster wheels to the bottom of the drill press stand. Align the caster wheels base and then lock them into place with screws.
Build the frame of the drawers from 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 18 1/2″ components and secure them to the perpendicular ones with 1 1/4″ pocket screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.
Build the bottom of the drawers from 3/4″ plywood and drill the pocket holes along the sides, as shown in the diagram. Fit the bottom to the drawer frames and secure it into place with 1 1/4″ pocket screws.
Fit the drawers to the drill press stand. Make sure you apply wax to the bottom and sides, so the drawers slide easily.
Attach 3/4″ plywood faces to the drawers, so you can enhance the look of the stand. Center the faces to the drawers and then insert 1 1/4″ brad nails to lock them into place tightly.
Install the drawer knobs and then take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes and the dents with wood putty and let it dry out for several hours. Smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper and apply a few coats of stain or paint
If you want to buy a drill press or a band saw, make sure you build this basic stand with caster wheels. The stand features two large drawers and caster wheels, so you can move it easily in any location. If you like my project, don’t forget to SHARE it on Facebook and Pinterest.
