How to build a window box
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the window box. Mark the cut lines on a piece of 1×10 lumber and get the job done with a nice jigsaw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner. Cut the bottom edges of the side components at 84 degrees.
Â
Â
Build the bottom of the window box out of 1×8 lumber. Drill several drainage holes through the bottom before attaching the side components into place. Drill pilot holes along the sides of the bottom components and insert screws into the side components. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Build the ends of window box out of 1×8 lumber, making sure you pay attention to the instructions described in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the sides of the window box and insert finishing nails into the end components. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
