Materials

  • A – 2 pieces of 1×3 lumber – 35″ long SUPPORTS
  • B – 2 pieces of 1×6 lumber – 28 1/2″ long SUPPORTS
  • C – 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 25 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 46″ long FRAME
  • D – 1 piece of 1/4″ mirror – 24″ x 35 1/2″ long MIRROR

  • 1 piece of 1×3 lumber – 6 ft
  • 1 piece of 1×6 lumber – 6 ft
  • 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 8 ft
  • 1 piece of 1/4″ mirror – 24″ x 35 1/2″
  • 1 1/4″ screws
  • glue, stain
  • wood filler

Tools

  • Safety gloves, glasses
  • Miter saw, jigsaw
  • Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil
  • Drill machinery and drill bits

  • Apply several coats of wood stain to the wooden components

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame for the vanity. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to use 1×3 lumber for the vertical components and 1×6 lumber for the horizontal components. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the vertical supports and secure them to the horizontal slats. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth. Insert 1 1/4″ screws to enhance the bond of the components.

Use a router and a drill bit to make 1/4″ rabbets to the interior back face of the frame, as shown in the diagram. Work with attention, otherwise the mirror won’t fit into place properly.

The next step of the project is to attach the 1×2 supports to the back of the wooden frame. Cut the components out of good quality lumber and lock them together with 1 1/4″ screws and pocket holes. After building the rectangular frame secure it to the vanity using glue and finishing nails. Leave no gaps between the components and clamp them thoroughly.

Fit the mirror to the frame and lock it into place tightly using appropriate clips. Make sure there are no gaps between the mirror and the frame. Maker sure you adjust the size of the mirror according to the

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the vanity mirror.
