This step by step diy woodworking project is about twin bed plans. If you want to learn more about building a twin bed, we suggest you to pay attention to the instructions describe din the article. There are many things that you could go wrong, so make sure you plan everything and invest in quality materials. Materials

  • A – 2 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 50″ long, 2 pieces – 17 1/4″ long, 1 piece – 47 1/2″ long HEADBOARD
  • B – 1 piece 3/4″ plywood – 34″x38 1/2 long BOARD
  • C – 2 pieces of 1×8 lumber – 75 1/2″ long, 1 piece – 38 1/2″ long FRAME
  • D – 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 75 1/2″ long CLEATS
  • E – 13 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 40″ long SLATS

  • 1 piece of 4×4 lumber – 10 ft
  • 1 piece of 4×4 lumber – 8 ft
  • 1 piece of 3/4″ plywood – 4’x4′
  • 1 piece of 1×8 lumber – 8 ft
  • 1 piece of 1×8 lumber – 8 ft
  • 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 8 ft

Building the headboard

 

Building the headboard is a straight forward process, but you need to pay attention to the following instructions. Cut the 4×4 components at the right size and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Drill pocket holes at the top of the vertical supports and secure them to the top. Make sure the corners are square and add waterproof glue to the joints. Drill pocket holes along the edges of the piece of 3/4″ plywood and secure it to the side legs, using 1 1/4′ screws.

Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×8 components and secure them to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and align everything with attention.

Pay attention to the instructions described in the diagram, as to build a win bed with a professional appearance. Use a carpentry square to check if the corners are right-angled.

Fit the 1×2 cleats to the interior sides of the bed frame and secure them to the wooden components by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joint sin order to create rigid joints. Place a spirit level on the cleats to make cure they are horizontal.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to attach the 1×4 support slats over the cleats. Place the slats equally-spaced and secure them to the cleats with galvanized screws.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues. If you want to secure the armoire to a wall, we recommend you to drill pilot holes through the back and to secure it to a studs with several 2 1/2″ screws.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the twin bed.
