Table Bench Plans

This diy step by step diy project is about table bench plans. The plans feature detailed instructions for building 6′ long rustic benches for a farmhouse table. Adjust the size and the design of the bench to suit your needs. Add decorative cross-braces, if needed. In addition, take a look over the related plans for more building ideas.

You should always plan everything from the very beginning, in order to prevent costly mistakes and to save time. If this is your first project, you should read the instructions with attention. Invest in high quality lumber and plywood, as the components will be exposed to bad weather. Protect the components with appropriate paint or stain.

There are a few tips that you should take into account, if you want to get a professional result. Therefore, take accurate measurements and use professional tools when making the cuts or when drilling pilot holes. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs for the bench. Cut both ends of the legs at 80 degrees. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.

Fitting the top supports

Fitting the top supports

Cut the top supports from 2×4 lumber. Make 45 degree cuts to the supports, in order to enhance the look of the bench. Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the legs of the bench. Leave no gaps between the components.

Fitting the side supports

Fitting the side supports

Next, you need to fit the bottom supports to the sides of the bench. Make 10 degree cuts to both ends of the supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the legs using 2 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the stretchers

Fitting the stretchers

Continue the project by attaching the 2×4 stretchers to the rustic 6′ bench. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components and secure them to the supports using 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square.
