Building a storage ottoman
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the bottom and the top of the storage ottoman. Therefore, we recommend you to buy the round components from your local diy store or to cut them out of 3/4″ plywood. Mark the cut lines on the sheet of plywood and get the job done with a jigsaw. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper.
Â
Â
Continue the woodworking project by making the components for the ottoman’s frame. Mark the cut lines on the piece of plywood and get the job done with a circular saw. Remove the excess with a chisel and clean the recess with a piece of sandpaper.
Â
Â
Assemble the two pieces of the frame together, making sure the corners are right-angled and there are no gaps between the components. Work with attention and tap the components with a rubber mallet.
Â
Â
Drill pocket holes through the base and the top of the frame. Center the round components to the frame and insert the 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.
Â
Â
One of the last step of the woodworking project is to attach the caster wheels to the ottoman. Make sure you align the wheels with great care, in order to get a professional result.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
