This step by step diy woodworking project is about sofa table plans. If you want to build a beautiful sofa table, we suggest you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. In addition, don’t forget to take a look over the rest of the woodworking projects, as there might be other plans for your needs. Don’t be afraid to adjust the designs and the size of the table, in order to suit your needs.

There are many steps that you should take into account before starting the actual construction of the sofa table. Therefore, we suggest you to choose the right plans for your needs and to invest in high-quality materials. Cedar, pine or redwood are excellent choices, as they are both highly durable and have a nice appearance. Adjust the size and the design of the sofa table to suit your needs.

It is essential to choose a design that matches the style of the rest of the furniture, so make sure you select the alternative that suit your needs. Work with attention and plan every step from the very beginning. It is essential to ask a skilled friend to give you a hand during the project, as one needs to hold the components into place, while the other one insert the screws to create rigid joints. Building the sides of the sofa table

Building the sides of the sofa table

The first step of the project is to build the front and the back faces of the sofa table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the components at the right size and to lock them together tightly. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and insert the screws into the wooden legs. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure.

Next, you need to plumb the sides of the sofa table and to lock them together with wooden supports. Cut the components at the right size and drill pocket holes at both ends, before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws into the legs. Make sure the corners are right-angled and make the necessary adjustments, in order to get the job done in a professional manner.

Fitting the shelves

Fitting the shelves

Cut several pieces of 3/4″ plywood at the right size and fit them inside the frame. Drill pocket holes around the edges of the plywood sheets before attaching them to the supports, by using 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

Fitting the side panels

If you want to enhance the look of the sofa table, we recommend you to attach 1/2″ plywood panels on both sides of the sofa table. Cut the plywood at the right size and fit it into place with great attention, making sure there are no gaps. Use waterproof glue and finishing nails to lock the panel into place tightly.

Attaching the top slats

Attaching the top slats

Attaching the slats to the top of the frame is a straight forward-process. We recommend you to lay the slats on a level surface, making sure there are no gaps between the slats. Drill pilot holes through the frame and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the slats. You could add glue to enhance the bond of the joints.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the sofa table.
