Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs of the sawhorses. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the components out of 2×4 lumber. Make sure you cut the ends of the legs at the right angle, otherwise the sawhorses won’t have a professional appearance.

Continue the project by fitting the braces to the bottom of the sawhorses. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut both ends of the supports at 80 degrees and to lock them between the legs with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them into place with galvanized screws.

Attach 1×4 slats to the supports, if you want to create storage shelves. Align the slats at both ends and secure them into place with galvanized screws.

Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 2×4 stretcher and secure it to both sawhorses, as shown in the image. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the bond of the structure.

Attaching the tabletop

Attaching the tabletop

Building the tabletop of the console table is a straight forward process, as it requires basic woodworking techniques. Lay the 2×6 slats on a level surface, making sure you leave no gaps between them. Drill pilot holes through the top of the sawhorses and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the slats. Fit a middle cleat to the slats, in order to keep them locked together tightly.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the table.
