If you don’t have a rich expertise in woodworking field, you should ask a friend to give you a hand with the project. There are many things that you could go wrong, so make sure you plan everything and invest in quality materials. Select the lumber with attention, making sure the components are perfectly straight and in a very good condition. Use a carpentry square to check if the corners are right-angled. Building the tabletop

The first step of the project is to build the tabletop of the train table. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to drill pocket holes along the edges of the 3/4″ plywood and to insert screws into the side trims. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.

Continue the project by fitting the rest of the components of the frame into place. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut both ends of the trims at 45 degrees and to lock them into place with screws or finishing nails.

Attaching the legs

Attaching the legs

Build the legs of the table out of 2×4 lumber and attach them to the frame of the table with galvanized screws. Drill pilot holes through the legs before inserting the screws into the frame, to prevent the wood from splitting. Leave no gaps between the components and enhance the bond of the structure with glue.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the train table.
