Building a shoe bench
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the shoe bench. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the components at the right size and to drill pocket holes before locking the components together with galvanized screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the joints.
Â
Â
Building the shelves is the next step of the woodworking project. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×12 slats and to lock them to the side walls with screws. Place a spirit level on top of the shelves to make sure they are horizontal before inserting the screws into place.
Â
Â
If you want to enhance the look of the shoe bench, we recommend you to fit 1×3 trims to the edges of the frame, as shown in the plans. Cut the trims at the right size, align them with attention and secure them into place with finishing nails. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.
Â
Â
Cut a piece of 1/4″ plywood at the right size and attach it to the back of the shoe bench, if you want to get the job done in a professional result. Check if the corners are square before attaching the plywood piece to the frame and add waterproof glue to enhance the bond of the components.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
