There are many bar designs and plans to choose from, so make sure you take a look over the rest of the related projects, before starting the actual construction of the home bar.

Before starting the actual construction project, we recommend you to plan everything, as to save money and to keep the costs under control. Adjust the size and the design of the home bar to suit your needs. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar, as they have a nice finish and are highly durable, especially in a humid environment.

If you don’t have a rich expertise in woodworking field, you should ask a friend to give you a hand with the project. Select the lumber with attention, making sure the components are perfectly straight and in a very good condition. Use a carpentry square to check if the corners are right-angled. Building a home bar

Building the sides

Building the sides

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the home bar. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the legs out of 1×3 lumber and to build the panels out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the plywood piece and secure it to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and remove the excess with a dry cloth.

Fitting the frame

Fitting the frame

The next step of  the project is to attach the 1×3 framing components, as described in the diagram. Secure the vertical components to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws, after drilling pilot holes. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the top support and secure them to the sides with 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and check if the sides are perfectly plumb.

Attaching the face of the bar

Attaching the face of the bar

Build the face out of 3/4″ plywood, using the information described in the diagram. Mark the cut lines to the piece of plywood and make the cuts with a circular saw. Make the circular cuts by using a nice jigsaw and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Drill pocket holes along the side edges and secure them to the sides with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

Fitting the shelves

Fitting the shelves

Build the shelves out of 3/4″ plywood and drill pocket holes along the side and front edges. Fit the shelves into place, take accurate measurements and secure them into place with galvanized screws. Check if the shelves are horizontal by using a spirit level.

Attaching the bar top

Cut the countertop of the bar out of 3/4″ plywood and center it to structure. Add waterproof glue to the joint and drill several galvanized screws through the support into the countertop. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.

Installing the partition

Installing the partition

Fit a piece of 1×3 lumber the home bar, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure. Center the component into place and lock it with galvanized screws.

Building the doors

Building the doors

Building the doors for the home bar is a straight-forward process, but you need to pay attention to the instructions described in the diagram. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the vertical components with 1 1/4″ screws. Cut a piece of 1/2″ plywood at the right dimensions and drill pocket holes along the edges. Fit the panels inside the frames and secure them to the slats with 1 1/4″ screws.

Fit the doors

Fit the doors

Fit the doors into the openings by using appropriate hinges, after making sure there is a gap of 1/8″ around the edges. Make sure the doors open easily and install the knobs.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the bar.
