Building the frame of the table

Building the frame of the table

The first step of the woodworking project is about building the frame of the table. Cut the 2×4 components at the right size and lock them together with galvanized screws, after drilling pocket holes at both ends of the long components. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.

Attaching the legs of the table

Drill pilot holes through the frame of the dining table and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the 4×4 legs. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the galvanized screws.

Fitting the side trims

Fitting the side trims

In order to enhance the look of the table, we recommend you to attach trims to the sides of the wooden dining table. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to secure the supports into place, as described in the diagram. Afterwards, attach the side trims to the supports and lock them into place with galvanized screws. Make sure the trims are flush with the legs and leave no gaps between the components.

Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues. Fit a support to the top of the rack. Drill a pilot holes and insert a screws directly into a stud, in order to create a rigid joint.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the shelves.
