This step by step diy woodworking project is about corner bookcase plans. B – 4 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 30″ long, 2 piece – 18 1/4″ long, 2 pieces – 17 1/2″ long FRAME
C – 2 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 11″x32 3/4″ long SIDES
D – 3 pieces of 3/4″ plywood – 31 1/2″x31 1/2″ long SHELVES
E – 2 pieces of 1/4″ plywood – 32 1/4″x32 3/4″ long BACK

Building a corner bookcase

Building the sides

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the frame. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to use 2×2 and 1×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right size before locking them together. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal supports and secure them to the legs with galvanized screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add waterproof glue to the joints.

Fitting the exterior

Cut a piece of 3/4″ plywood at the dimensions highlighted in the diagrams and secure it to the exterior of the sides. Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the plywood pieces. Add waterproof glue to enhance the joints and leave no gaps between the components.

Building the frame

Continue the woodworking project by attaching the supports to the sides of the bookcase. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the 1×2 supports and lock them together by inserting 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square.

Building the shelves

Build the shelves for the bookcase, by using the information from the diagram. Mark the cut lines on the 3/4″ plywood and fit the shelves into place.

Fitting the shelves

Drill pocket holes through the shelves and secure them to the legs with 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and the joints are rigid. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner.

Fitting the back walls

Attach the 1/4″ plywood pieces to the back of the corner bookcase, making sure the corners are right-angled. Align the pieces of plywood with attention and secure them into place with finishing nails. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Attaching the top

Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the top of the bookcase. Align the top component with attention, making sure the edges are flush and there are no gaps between the components.

Fitting the support legs

Attach two 2×2 legs to the bottom of the bookcase, as described in the diagram. Secure the legs to the frame with finishing nails and work with attention, otherwise the surface won’t be perfectly horizontal.

Corner bookcase plans

Last but not least, you need to attach the top shelf into place. Drill pocket holes at the top of the legs and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the shelf. We recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
