If you want to learn more about building a nice wooden chair for your bistro table, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Work with attention and take a look over the rest of the woodworking projects, as there are many plans to choose from, if you want to add value to your home.

Before starting the actual construction project, we recommend you to plan everything, as to save money and to keep the costs under control. Adjust the size and the design of the stool to suit your needs. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar, as they have a nice finish and are highly durable, especially in a humid environment.

If you don’t have a rich expertise in woodworking field, you should ask a friend to give you a hand with the project. There are many things that you could go wrong, so make sure you plan everything and invest in quality materials. Select the lumber with attention, making sure the components are perfectly straight and in a very good condition. Use a carpentry square to check if the corners are right-angled. Buidling the frame of the stool

Building the frame of the stool

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the bistro seat. Therefore, we recommend you to cut the 1×3 components at the right size and to lock them together tightly. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the yellow components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are square and add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.

Attach the frame to the top of the legs, making sure you align the components with great care. Work with attention and drill pilot holes through the components before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to increase the bond.

Fitting the exterior trims

Fitting the exterior trims

Attach trims to the exterior of the frame, as shown in the image, if you want to create proper supports for the seat slats. Attach the small piece of lumber to the legs and them fit the exterior slats with galvanized screws.

Adjust the width of a 1×10 slat to 8″ and fit it to the middle of the bistro chair. In addition, we recommend you to install 1×4 slats to the exterior of the seat, as shown in the diagram. Drill pocket holes through the frame of the seat and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the seat slats.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the bistro chair.
