Building an armoire
Â
First of all, we recommend you to build the frame of the bathroom armoire using 1×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and lock them to the sides slats. Check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws.
Â
Â
Continue the project by attaching a piece of 1/4″ plywood to the back of the armoire frame. Make sure the corners are right-angled before attaching the plywood to the frame with screws. Add waterproof glue to joints in order to enhance the bond of the components.
Â
Â
Building the front door for the armoire is a straight-forward process, as you just need to lock several 1×4 slats together. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the vertical components. Add glue to enhance the strength of the joints.
Â
Â
Make 1/4″x1/4″ rabbets along the interior faces of the door, by using a router with a bit.
Â
Â
Cut a mirror to the right size and secure it into place with mirror adhesive or silicone. Make sure the mirror is secured properly to the frame before attaching it to the frame with hinges. Make sure you align the door to the frame at both ends, before fitting it into place with piano hinges.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues. If you want to secure the armoire to a wall, we recommend you to drill pilot holes through the back and to secure it to a studs with several 2 1/2″ screws.
