How to build a Christmas tree stand

Building a Christmas tree stand

Building the base of the christmas tree

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the base of the Christmas three stand. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to lock the two 1×4 slats together, in a cross shape. Drill pilot holes before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joint, in order to create a rigid structure.

Fit the supports under the top slat, in order to balance the stand in a professional manner. Align the components at both ends before inserting the screws, to get the job done in a professional manner. Ad waterproof to enhance the bond of the components.

Fitting the trims

If you want to get the job done as a professional, we recommend you to attach 1×4 trims over the supports, as shown in the plans. Cut the trims at both ends and secure them into place using waterproof glue and finishing nails. Leave no gaps between the components and smooth the cut edges with sandpaper before locking them into place.

Building the support

Assembling the tree support is a straight forward process, but you need to take accurate measurements and to lock the components tightly. Drill pilot holes along the edges of the wide slats and insert galvanized screws into the perpendicular components. Add waterproof glue to joints and clamp them together tightly for several hours.

Fitting the base

Drill pocket holes through the bottom edges and secure them to the supports with galvanized screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled before securing the support to the base with screws.

Building the braces

If you want to add extra-support to the tree stand, we recommend you to install several braces, as shown in the plans. Cut both ends of the supports at 45 degrees and center them before inserting the screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

Fitting the braces

Continue the project by fitting the rest of the braces to the rest of the faces. Work with attention and with great care, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
