Adjust the size and the design of the console table to suit your needs before starting the actual assembly project. In addition, we recommend you to invest in high-quality lumber, such as pine, cedar or redwood, as the higher cost will pay off on the long run. Always align the components at both ends and drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner.
It is essential to plan every aspect of the project from the very beginning, in order to prevent costly mistakes and to keep the costs under control. If you don’t have expertise in the field of woodworking, we recommend you to ask a skilled friend to give you a hand. Building a console table
Â
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the console table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to build the legs out of 2×3 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and lock them to the posts with 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints to enhance the structure.
Check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the screws, to get a professional result. In addition, make sure the legs are plumb before inserting the galvanized screws.
Â
Â
Continue the project by attaching the 1×3 slats to the supports, in order to make the bottom shelf. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the longs slats and attach them to the end components. Afterwards, drill pocket holes through the aprons and insert galvanized screws into the shelf slats. Align everything with attention if you want to get the job done in a professional manner. Fit 1/8″ plywood pieces between the slats to create even gaps.
Â
Â
Building the tabletop is a straight-forward process, if you follow the instructions described in the plans. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together tightly. Place the slats equally-spaced, in order to get a symmetrical appearance. Add glue to the joints and don’t forget to remove the excess with a damp cloth.
Â
Â
Center the frame of the console table to the countertop and secure it into place with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes through the aprons and insert the screws into the tabletop, making sure you leave no gaps between the components.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
