This step by step diy woodworking project is about farm chair plans. If you want to find out more about how to build a farmhouse chair, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions and diagrams described in the article. Work with attention and don’t forget to take a look over the rest of the related plans, as there might be some that suit your needs and add value to your life.
Plan everything with attention and ask a skilled friend to give you a hand, if you don’t have an extensive expertise in the field. From our experience, it is important to invest in high quality materials, such as pine, cedar or redwood, as the money spent will pay off in the long run. These materials are both durable and have a very beautiful finish, that is why they make a great choice.
Make sure the wooden components are perfectly straight and are cut at the right size before locking them together with galvanized screws and waterproof glue. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Check if the corners are right-angled after each step of the project. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and secure the components tightly. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a farmhouse chair
Â
The first step of the project is to build the sides of the farm chair. As you can easily notice, you should assemble the sides by using 1×3 lumber. Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with screws and waterproof glue. Make sure the corners are right-angled before inserting the screws. You could adjust the height of the front legs to suit your needs.
Â
Â
Continue the project by locking the two sides of the chair together. Therefore, we recommend you to cut the supports at the right size and to drill pocket holes at both ends. Fit the supports into place, align them with great care and insert the 1 1/4″ galvanized screws into the legs. Check if the corners are right-angled and make sure the supports are horizontal.
Â
Â
Building the backrest of the farm chair is a straight-forward process, as you just need to fit the 1×3 slats between the back legs and to lock them into place with galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to make them rigid. Work with attention and fit the slats equally-spaced.
Â
Â
One of the last steps of the project is to attach the 1×4 slats to the frame of the farm chair. Cut the components at the right size and attach them into place starting with the center of the seat. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert the galvanized screws into the slats. Make sure there are no gaps between the slats and add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the seat.
Â
Â
Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.
