This step by step diy woodworking project is about play table plans. If you want to learn how to build a small play table with storage, we recommend you pay attention to the instructions described in this article and to check out the related projects. There are many things that you could build for your kids, so it essential to have several options to choose from.

Invest in quality lumber from the very beginning, if you want to build a durable play table with a nice appearance. Cedar, redwood or pine are proper choices, as they have a nice finish and are easy to work with. Make sure the components are perfectly straight and in a very good visual condition. Ask for a few estimates from different lumberyards before buying the materials.

There are several ways in which you can join the components together, but the easiest and most accurate method is to drill pocket holes and to insert galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints if you want to enhance the bond. Align all the components and make sure the corners are right-angled before driving the screws in. Smooth the surface and apply a few coats of paint to protect the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building the bottom shelf

Building the bottom shelf

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the play table. As you can easily notice in the image, you need build the legs out of 2×2 lumber and the braces out of 1×6 slats. Align the component at both ends, making sure sure the corners are right-angled, before inserting the screws.

Smart Tip: Use a jig to drill pocket holes at both ends of the legs before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws into the legs. Add glue to the joints if you want to enhance the bond of the components.

Fitting the shelf

Fitting the shelf

Continue the woodworking project by attaching the bottom shelf between the wooden components, as in the plans. Cut the piece of 3/4″ plywood at the right size, drill pocket holes along the edges and insert the screws into the braces.

Next, you should attach the tabletop supports to the top of the wooden legs. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×3 supports and insert the screws into the legs. Add glue to the joints, if you want to enhance the rigidity of the frame.
