This step by step diy woodworking project is about bedside table plans. If you want to learn how to build a rustic wooden bedside table, we suggest you to pay attention to the instructions and diagrams shown in this article. In addition, it would be a good idea to take a look over the related projects featured on this site, as there are many ideas you could try to improve your home.

There are many things that should be taken into account, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner. Therefore, we recommend you to pay attention to several plans before starting the actual construction project. Select proper lumber, making sure the components are in a good condition and have no visible flaws. Cedar, pine or redwood are good choices, as they are both durable and pleasant-looking.

Don’t forget that you should really plan every aspect of the construction from the very beginning, if you want to prevent potential mistakes and to keep the costs as low as possible. Work with attention and adjust the size of the bedside table to your needs. Use professional tools to cut the components ta the right size and always pre-drill the lumber before inserting the screws into place. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building the sides of the table

Building the sides of the table

The first step of the project is to build the sides of the bedside table. As you can easily notice in the image, we recommend you to attach 1×2 trims to a piece of 3/4″ plywood. Add waterproof glue to joints and insert finishing nails from the interior into the trims.

Building the frame

Building the frame

Next, you should build the frame of the bedside table. Therefore, use 2×2 lumber to make the frame of the table, as shown in the plans.

Smart Tip: Cut the components at the right dimension and lock them together with screws, after drilling pocket holes. Check if the corners are right-angled and if the legs are plumb before continuing the project.

Attaching the back of the bedside table

Attaching the back of the bedside table

Attaching the back of the bedside table is easy and it doesn’t require complex woodworking skills. Cut a small piece of 1/4″ plywood and attach it to the back of the bedside table, as shown in the plans. Use finishing nails and waterproof glue to create a rigid structure.

Attaching the tabletop

The next step is to attach the tabletop to the structure. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to fit 1×2 supports to the top of the structure before attaching the 2×4 slats into place.

Smart Tip: Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert screws into the slats. Add waterproof glue between the slats to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Building the drawer support

Afterwards, build a really simple frame and attach it to the structure of the bedside table, as shown in the image. Make sure the frame has right-angled corners and use a level to check if it is horizontal before securing it to the structure as in the image.

Building the drawer

Building the drawer

Building the drawer for the bedside table is not a difficult process, especially if you follow the right plans and instructions. Therefore, we recommend you to take accurate measurements when cutting the components and locking them together. Add a handle to the front face of the drawer and fit it inside the bedside table.

Building the x-shaped ornaments

Building the x-shaped ornaments

If you want to enhance the look of the bedside table, we recommend you to create simple X-shaped ornaments and to attach them to both sides of the structure. Cut the ends of the components at 45 degrees and secure them to the legs with nails or screws.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood filler and let it to dry out for several hours. Afterwards, smooth the wooden surface with fine-grit sandpaper and vacuum the residues.

Smart Tip: Apply several coats of stain or paint to the wooden components, if you want to protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the arbor bench.
