This step by step diy article is about firewood shed designs. If you want to protect the firewood from bad weather and make sure they will dry out properly, you should consider building a shed. Nevertheless, you should know there are many designs and shapes to choose from, starting with basic constructions without a roof, up to complex sheds with a saltbox shape. Irrespective of your choice, build a strong base and place the shed on a sturdy surface.
There are a certain things you have to take into account, before starting the construction process. Therefore, you should make sure you comply with the legal regulation, as they vary according to your residence. Go to the building department and study the requirements for this type of constructions. Generally speaking, you have to leave a certain distance to teh property line and you have to dig the foundation at a certain depth.
Buy the best materials you can afford, in order to build a durable firewood shed with a nice appearance. In addition, drill pilot holes in the wooden components before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Use a spirit level to ensure the floor is perfectly horizontal and the walls are plumb. Place a wooden block between the slats, to make sure you obtain consistent gaps.
Firewood Shed Designs
First of all, you could build a basic firewood storage shed, especially if you don’t want to invest a significant amount of money or time in the diy project. As you can see in the image, you can get the job done even with scrap lumber. If you need a place to store a small quantity of wood, you should build a simple structure.

If you want to build a firewood shed with a simple design, but you want to add a roof to the structure, then you should pay attention to this project. Therefore, secure the corner posts to the floor joists and cut their ends at about 30º. Use a spirit level to plumb the side walls of the shed, before securing them into place with screws.

If you have a small backyard, you could still build a small firewood shed, by attaching it to an existing construction. Therefore, build the base of the shed from 2×4 joists and 2×6 slats. As you can see in the image, the lean to roof should be oriented towards the front, in order to drain the water properly.

Last but not least, you could add value to your property and enhance the appearance of your garden, if you choose to build a complex shed with front overhand. Place the shed on concrete blocks, on a concrete slab or pour several concrete footings. Align all the components, before inserting the screws.
