This step by step woodworking project is about 8×10 shed gable roof plans. This is PART 2 of the shed project, where I show you how to build the gable roof for the small storage shed. The shed comes with two windows and one door for easy access. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build a 8×10 shed roof
The first step of the project is to build the trusses for the shed. Therefore, make cuts to the 2×4 beams and then lay them on a  level surface, such as the floor frame. Leave no gaps between the rafters for a professional result.
Use 2×4 lumber for the middle supports. Make cuts to the support and then lay it to the rafters.
Use 1/2″ plywood for the gussets and then lay them over the joints. Leave no gaps between the components for a professional result. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the gussets into place tightly.
Fit the trusses to the top of the shed. Use a spirit level to plumb the trusses and then secure them to the plates with rafter ties. Place the trusses every 24″ center for a professional result.
Use T1-11 siding for the gable end panels. Mark cut lines on the sheets and then get the job done with a saw. Fit the panels to the sides of the shed and then insert 6-8d nails to secure them to the framing. Insert the nails every 8″ for a professional bond.
Fit 2×4 overhangs to the sides of the shed. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to secure the overhangs into place.
Fit the 3/4″ plywood to the top of the shed. Align the edges with attention and leave no gaps between the sheets. Insert 1 5/8″ screws every 8″ along the rafters. Moreover, you need to attach 1×4 slats over the overhangs. Insert 1 5/8″ screws to secure the slats to the overhang supports.
Fit 1×6 slats to the shed roof. Align the edges with attention and insert 2″ brad nails to lock the trims to the front and back of the shed roof.
Cut the trims for the sides of the roof. Use 2″ nails to secure them into place.
You could fit asphalt shingles to protect the shed, as it is a straight forward solution. Therefore, install roofing felt over the roofing sheets, making sure the strips overlap at least 2″. Secure the tar paper to the plywood sheets with roofing staples. Fit the side drip edges over the roofing felt, while the bottom drip edges should be fit under. Place a starting course at the bottom of the roof, before installing the asphalt shingles. Always read the manufacturing instructions before starting the installation, as there are several aspects that differ.
Smart Tip: The first course should star with a 3 tab shingle, the second course with a  2 1/2 tab , the third course with a 2 tab, the forth course with a 1 1/2 tab, the fifth course with a 1 tab, the sixth course with a 1/2 tab. Repeat the process from the beginning, starting with the seventh course. Don’t forget that the shingles should overhang from the drip edge about a 1/4″. In addition, secure the asphalt shingles to the roof decking with tacks.
This gable garden shed has a super nice appearance, making it the ideal choice for any backyard. If you want to create more storage space in the backyard for your bikes, tools and so on, this is the project to tackle.
