Building a Wishing Well Roof

This step by step woodworking project is about garden wishing well roof plans.After building the base for the wishing well, I recommend you to take a look over PART 2 of the project, where I show you how to frame the roof for the wishing well. With common materials and tools you can build this project in one weekend. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Materials

E – 1 piece of 1″ dowel – 23 1/2″ long, 1 piece – 4″ long, 1 piece of 1×3 lumber – 4″ long, 1 piece – 2″ long SPINDLE
F – 4 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 22″ long, 2 pieces – 34 3/4″ long RAFTERS
G – 14 pieces 1×4 lumber – 30 1/2″ long, 1 piece of 1×1 lumber – 30 1/2″ long ROOF

9 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 8′
1″ rod
2 1/2″ screws, 1 5/8″ screws
wood filler , wood glue, stain/paint

Safety gloves, glasses
Miter saw, jigsaw
Chalk line, tape measure, spirit level, carpentry pencil

Wooden Wishing Well Roof Plans

Fitting-the-rafters

Build the rafters for the wishing well from 1×4 lumber. Cut both ends of the rafters at 45 degrees and then secure them to the stakes with 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot or pocket holes to secure the rafters into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the components and add glue to the joints for a professional result.

Fitting-the-bottom-rafters

Build the bottom rafters from 1×4 lumber, as well. Cut both ends of the bottom rafters at 45 degrees using a saw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and then secure the components into place with 1 5/8″ screws, after drilling the pilot holes. Add waterproof glue to the joints for a neat result.

Fitting-the-roofing-slats

Fit the 1×4 slats to the roof of the wishing well. Center the slats to the rafters and then secure them into place with 2″ brad nails. Leave no gaps between the slats and install a 1×1 cap to the top of the roof.

Building-the-spindle

Build the spindle for the wishing well from 1″ rod and cuts outs of 1×4 lumber.

Fitting-the-spindle

Assemble the spindle from the rod and from the pieces of slats. Use glue and 2″ brad nails to lock everything tightly.
