This step by step woodworking project is about saw bench plans. If you like to do things in the old way, cutting plans by hand can be done easily using a proper bench. This design features plans for a sturdy saw bench that can be built using 2×4 and 2×6 lumber. Follow my instructions and tips, so you get the job done quickly and without no problems. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building the vertical supports

Building the vertical supports

The first step of the workshop project is to make the vertical supports for the saw bench. Mark the cut lines on the 2×6 beams and get the job done with a saw. Make sure you cut over the lines and then smooth them with sandpaper.

Continue the project by attaching the horizontal supports into place. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the 2×4 lumber and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical supports. Add glue to the joints for a stronger bond.

Attaching the top of the bench

Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint and stain to enhance the look of the bench and to protect them from the elements.
