This step by step woodworking project is about crate display plans. This tiered display stand is ideal for any pantry or for garage. The three crates are roomy enough so you can store many vegetables or jars. You can build this project under 30 $, using common tools and materials you find at any home improvement store. Follow my instructions and tips, so you get the job done quickly and without no problems. See my other DIY projects HERE.
We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

Building a crate display
The first step of the project is to assemble the crates. Therefore, use 1×3 slats for the sides and 1×2 lumber for the corner supports. The easiest way to assemble the crates is to add waterproof glue to the joints and then insert 1 1/4″ brad nails. Make sure the edges are flush before inserting the brad nails.
Attach the 1×3 slats to the bottom of the crates, as shown in the diagram. Use 1 1/4″ brad nails and glue to lock them into place.
Next, you need to build the legs for the display stand using 1×3 lumber. As you can see in the plans, you need to round the top edge of the back legs and to cut the top of the front legs at angle.
After assembling the three crates you need to assemble the display stand by attaching the legs. Use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to secure the legs to the three crates.
In order to enhance the look of the tiered display stand, you need to build a chalkboard and attach it to the top of the back legs. Use 1×2 lumber for the frame of the chalkboard and 1/4″ plywood for the chalkboard panel. Apply a few coats of chalkboard paint over the panel and then secure it to the frame with 1 1/4″ brad nails. Add glue to the joints, as well.
Attach the chalkboard to the back legs, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the legs and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the frame of the chalkboard.
Fill the holes and the dents with putty and let it dry out for several hours. Smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats if paint or stain to enhance the look of the display stand. In addition, seal the finish with clear lacquer.
This tiered crate display stand is ideal for any pantry, as it provides many storage space for your vegetables. If you like my project, don’t forget to SHARE it on Facebook and Pinterest.

Sould I use nails or screws to attach the legs to the crates?
Thanks
Screws are the better choice.
