This diy step by step diy project is about tool stand plans. This project is about building a simple tool stand with caster wheels and with storage shelves. Anyone can get the job done, as the project requires basic tools and materials. This makes for a handy project that will add value to your workshop and ease your work.

You should always plan everything from the very beginning, in order to prevent costly mistakes and to save time. If this is your first project, you should read the instructions with attention. Invest in high quality lumber and plywood, as the components will be exposed to bad weather. Protect the components with appropriate paint or stain.

There are a few tips that you should take into account, if you want to get a professional result. Therefore, take accurate measurements and use professional tools when making the cuts or when drilling pilot holes. Align the components at both ends and add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid structure. See all my Premium Plans in the Shop.

How to build a tool stand

Building the panels

Building the panels

The first step of the project is to build the panels for the tool stand. Cut the components from 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the panels, as shown in the diagram. Make two 24″ wide pieces and one 19 3/4″ wide piece.

Assembling the tool stand

Assembling the tool stand

Build the legs for the tool stand from 2×2 lumber. Align the panels to the legs and lock them together with 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Fitting the supports

Fitting the supports

Fit the 1×2 supports to the interior of the tool stand, as shown in the diagram. Use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to secure it to the panels.

Fitting the trims to the back of the stand

One of the last steps of the project is to attach the 1×2 or 1×3 trims to the exterior of the countertop. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you should cut both ends of the trims at 45 degrees. Use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to lock them into place.

Fitting the caster wheels
